Will he ever know?

I have spent a fair bit of time in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Personally I love the town. I always stay in the same hotel, and on the same floor. Moreover, the kitchen knows exactly how I like my Chef salad. Boring? Well yes in a way, but that’s just how it has worked out.

Saying that, I have never met the General Manager and he has never introduced himself to me. He is clearly not very hands on. Does it matter? No, because the people that really matter, the staff, all knows me and knows exactly what I want. The sad thing is, that he will never know how good they are, and reward them accordingly. Opportunities permitting, they will all eventually leave.

The search in Ho Chi Minh

In search of a printer in Ho Chi Minh. I don’t often travel to district 11, as it’s a long way from the centre of town. We drove for an hour to find the place. Somehow I was unwilling to give up the search, as I was in a mood for of “adventure”. Just too many numbers in the address for anyone to make sense where we were supposed to go and be.

The taxi driver, a random Chinese woman (the lone English speaker) and motorcycle individual all participated in solving the puzzle. Communication was a big problem, but what really amazed me was, just how willing everyone was to help.

The helpful English speaking Chinese women, spotted we were in the wrong ward. The taxi driver kept on taking the wrong street. But somehow, it all didn’t matter. He was so committed to find the place, and determined not to give up the search. We eventually found the printer who was willing to delivery all the supplies to my door, and even served me a cold glass of green tea for my efforts.Vietnam never stops to impress me. What a great future it has.
